Has adding the designated hitter to the National League boosted offense in Major League Baseball? Well…
On WISE Sports Radio, we discuss fewer runs and less hitting in MLB, Madison Bumgarner’s confrontation with an umpire, teams dealing with COVID outbreaks again, and Robinson Cano being released by the New York Mets.
Before the 2021 Major League Baseball season began, Clint Domingue asked me to be on his 103.7 The Game radio show. But my phone wasn’t cooperating and I couldn’t call in. So I wasn’t sure we’d talk again until maybe the All-Star break or the postseason.
Fortunately, Clint wanted to talk this weekend and there were plenty of topics to discuss, including Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa acting like a curmudgeon, the surprising number of no-hitters being thrown, and the surge of the Houston Astros (the local MLB team for the Acadiana region).
As I said when appearing on Clint’s show last year, It’s been fun to watch him establish himself on the radio with his own show and a pro wrestling podcast. He works hard and has a great radio voice so I hope he continues to trend upward with his radio career. I’m grateful he invited me on his show.
Phone problems at the WISE Sports Radio mothership prevented Monday’s baseball segment from happening. But we were back at it on Wednesday to talk about the New York Yankees suffering a serious blow to their starting pitching rotation.
Pat Ryan and I also discussed two instances of social media and interactions with fans getting out of hand for at least two major leaguers, along with the secret cowboy life of Madison Bumgarner.
Unlike last year, MLB’s offseason is humming along in 2019. Maybe most of the big names will have been signed or traded before Christmas!
Anyway, the teams who didn’t want to pay for Gerrit Cole or Stephen Strasburg got less expensive aces for their starting rotation as Madison Bumgarner signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers traded for Corey Kluber.
Also on Monday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan and I talk about MLB taking marijuana off its list of banned drugs.
With the exception of the Pittsburgh Pirates hiring Derek Shelton (previously the Minnesota Twins’ bench coach) to be their new manager, baseball news is virtually non-existent around the Thanksgiving holiday.
So on Wednesday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan, Charlie Metcalf, and I look at which teams will be active in pursuing free agents, who really needs to make an impact signing, and some of the big names rumored to be traded this offseason.
