WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Shohei and Alonso donate, Mets injuries, Boone’s hotseat

Due to some technical difficulties and general jackassery from the guy at the keyboard, it’s been a while since we’ve posted a baseball segment from WISE Sports Radio. But we’re back! Unfortunately, I had a bad connection at times, which could either be attributed to storms in the area or sitting in a bad place for Wi-Fi coverage.

We covered a few stories that were more baseball-adjacent, like the shooting outside Nationals Park in D.C and a Yankees fan throwing a ball at a Red Sox player. But two major injuries for the New York Mets and the job status of Yankees manager Aaron Boone were also part of the conversation.

‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ review at Awful Announcing

Had Space Jam: A New Legacy not been available to watch at home on HBO Max, I don’t know if I would’ve seen it. Maybe I would have, however, because it’s arguably a “sports movie” starring LeBron James and I could justify reviewing it for Awful Announcing.

Hey, that’s exactly what I did:

Sure, perhaps the original Space Jam is viewed affectionately through a nostalgia lens and a sequel couldn’t compete with those memories. But the first movie was fun in a way the new version isn’t. Jordan knew what kind of movie he was in and went along with it. He allowed himself to be goofy and for wacky things to happen to him. To put it in Bugs Bunny’s words, Jordan was “looney.”

LeBron never lets himself go to embrace the spirit of the movie, even when he becomes a cartoon alongside Bugs. He looks like this is an obligation for him, as if he should be in a new Space Jam as this generation’s biggest basketball star.

WISE Sports Radio baseball clip: Trevor Bauer is in trouble

Once again, I messed up the recording of our full WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. Sometime during those 15 minutes or so, I must have hit a button that made the recording stop. I might need to bring in an intern to do this.

But I did manage to salvage a clip of my conversation with Pat Ryan regarding Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer and some very serious assault allegations against him. Reading the reports of the temporary restraining order filed against Bauer, it’s difficult to imagine him pitching again this season.
