WISE Sports Radio NFL: Ryan Tannehill’s remarks, DeAndre Hopkins’ failed PED test, NFL Draft grades

One week after the NFL Draft, we look at who selected the best talent, including the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions during our WISE Sports Radio football spot.

Pat Ryan, Chris Smith, and I also discuss recent comments by Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill about seeking therapy and mentoring younger players competing for his position. Also, should DeAndre Hopkins be believed when he says he’s “shocked” over failing a PED test?

WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: July 16, 2020

For this week’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, the hope was that the Washington Post would publish its supposed bombshell story on the Washington football team (no longer the Redskins, remember). Plenty of media acted like they’ve heard what will be reported, even though they probably don’t really know.

The Post published its story after our segment: 15 women allege sexual harassment and verbal abuse from Washington Redskins team employees, three of whom recently left the organization before this report was published.

Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I addressed that speculation before getting to the big contracts signed this week. Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett received big paydays, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is looking at a potentially very lucrative future.

WISE Sports Radio NFL hit: Jan. 16, 2020

As football snuck onto Wednesday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, baseball upstages football on Thursday with news of Carlos Beltran stepping down as New York Mets manager (probably before he was fired) after his role in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal was exposed.

Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I do get to football, however, discussing the Centennial Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Odell Beckham Jr. passing out straight cash, homey. We also talk more about Matt Rhule as the Carolina Panthers’ new head coach and Sunday’s NFL conference championship games.

The Podcass 016: Double Will Smith, NFL Week 7, and the Nats!

We’ve been sports-heavy on The Podcass this week. Hey, October is packed with playoff baseball, college football and NFL, along with the beginnings of the NHL and NBA seasons. So I guess that’s reflected here.

But we break up that sports talk with a review of Will Smith’s double-take in Gemini Man (23:38). And it’s a week with two segments from WISE Sports Radio on our Friday show. First, we preview the big storylines going into Week 7 on the NFL schedule, including Jalen Ramsey getting traded to the Los Angeles Rams (04:37). Then, we close out with baseball talk, focusing on the amazing, improbable run of the Washington Nationals and the Yankees-Astros ALCS (33:59).

WISE Sports Radio NFL spot: Oct. 17, 2019

Ever since I began talking about the NFL on WISE Sports Radio, cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been a topic. The guy just didn’t want to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars anymore (disappointing Jason Mendoza) and was going to claim injury (back, knee, ankle, etc.) or come up with another excuse (the birth of his second child) until he was traded to another team. Ramsey was finally dealt to the Los Angeles Rams, which means he probably won’t be a regular topic for us anymore — unless he gives us another reason.

Once again, producer Jordan DeVere filled in for the vacationing Pat Ryan, co-hosting with longtime Asheville High assistant football coach Charlie Metcalf. We also discussed Detroit Lions fans buying billboards to rage over the bad calls that cost them Monday night’s game versus the Packers. The Marcus Mariota era is over with the Tennessee Titans, and the Carolina Panthers have a dilemma if Cam Newton is ready to play. And we looked at Thursday night’s matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos.
