WISE Sports Radio football talk: 2022 NFL coaching carousel, Wild Card playoffs begin

Successful recording! After a couple of strikeouts, my recording app, computer, and timing all worked out for what should be entirely routine by now. Pardon the baseball analogy introducing football content.

For WISE Sports Radio‘s NFL segment, we discuss Brian Flores’ surprising firing by the Miami Dolphins and the coaching vacancies for the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings. Three of those teams are also looking for a general manager. And we take a look at the Wild Card playoff weekend.

Talking baseball and sports media with ol’ pal Jim Irizarry – on the radio!

Our old friend Jim Irizarry now has a full-time gig at 960 AM WSBT Sports Radio in South Bend and this week, he filled in on the Sportsbeat AM morning show. Happy for Jim to be back on the radio and happy to chat with him!

Since Jim and I often talked baseball on his streaming radio show and podcast, I assumed that’s what we’d discuss. And we did, with the decisive Game 5 of the Dodgers-Giants National League Division Series. WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: Jan. 21, 2021

Yeah, yeah, yeah — the NFC and AFC Championship Games are this weekend, with the winners going to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady! Aaron Rodgers! And maybe Patrick Mahomes, if he’s recovered from a possible concussion. Sure, we talked about those games on WISE Sports Radio‘s NFL segment.

But the Detroit Lions also have a new head coach! And Dan Campbell is winning over the fanbase with tough, candid talk and a sense of humor. I’m on board with the hire, as I said on the air (and “in print“).

WISE Sports Radio NFL spot: Jan. 14, 2021

Urban Meyer coming out of retirement, leaving a comfortable TV gig with Fox Sports, to coach the Jacksonville Jaguars? According to reports, it’s virtually a done deal. Can Meyer work the same magic he did at Ohio State and Florida? With the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, 11 selections overall, and $100 million in salary cap space, he has an opportunity to remake the Jags in his vision.

On Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, Pat Ryan, Chris Smith, and I discuss Meyer’s move, coaches the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles are considering, and go over the four NFL Divisional Round playoff games this weekend.

WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: Feb. 20, 2020

On Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, Pat Ryan and I take a break from looking at snow to ask if Joe Burrow really wants to play for the Cincinnati Bengals. At the very least, he’s playing a tough negotiator.

Also, we praise Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, discuss the NFL’s proposed new playoff format and 17-game schedule — and all the money to come with those — and I almost break down talking about my Detroit Lions fandom.
