WISE Sports Radio football talk: Cam Newton cut, Dolphins and Deshaun, Raiders a playoff team?

The big news in the NFL this week was the New England Patriots cutting quarterback Cam Newton. That drew national headlines, but it’s also of local interest since Newton played nine seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

On our WISE Sports Radio football segment, we discuss whether or not Newton’s refusal to get vaccinated motivated his release and where he could possibly end up next. Also on the board, rumors of Deshaun Watson getting traded to the Miami Dolphins, and the playoff chances for the Las Vegas Raiders.

You can stream The WISE Guys from 3 to 6 p.m. ET on wisesportsradio.com or the TuneIn app. Locally in the Asheville area, you can listen on 1310 or 970 AM and 102.9 FM.

Thanks to Mars Hill University for sponsoring WISE’s streaming broadcast and the NFL segment is presented by D.C. Creasman Jewelers.

NFL teams are going through their respective mini-camps (or “Organized Team Activities”) now, which provides a few storylines to cover for our WISE Sports Radio football segment.

WISE Sports Radio NFL talk: Aaron Rodgers’ feud with the Packers, NFL Draft reactions, Detroit Lions’ offseason

Aaron Rodgers’ feud with the Green Bay Packers has hijacked the NFL offseason. So naturally, we had to talk about him on our WISE Sports Radio NFL segment. Is Rodgers serious about wanting to play for another team? Would the Packers really trade the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player?

We also discussed the fallout from the 2021 NFL Draft. Which teams improved themselves? Which teams fell short of expectations? The Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills got a bit more spotlight, ceding to the favorite teams of me and co-host Mike Gore.
