Urban Meyer taking the Jacksonville Jaguars job was always a head-scratcher when major programs like Texas and USC figured to have openings. So when USC fired coach Clay Helton this week, it was natural to speculate that Meyer — who’s been enormously successful at Utah, Florida, and Ohio State — would be a good fit in Los Angeles. But he just took the Jaguars job!
On our WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I discuss whether Meyer really could bolt for the Trojans. Other topics include the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive line issues, the Buffalo Bills’ disappointing Week 1 loss to the Steelers, the Philadelphia Eagles’ surprising win, and Taylor Heinicke’s debut as quarterback for the Washington Football Team.
And since we talked about it on-air, here’s my Nate Burleson tweet that the new CBS Mornings (and NFL Slimetime) host — and former Detroit Lions receiver — retweeted to his 267,000 followers:
The “infamous pizza incident” was a 2013 auto accident Burleson was involved in while he played for the Lions. He wasn’t going to let those pizzas slide off the passenger seat!
