WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: Aug. 27, 2020

August 26, 2020 was an important day in sports and culture. We don’t even need the perspective of years passing to see that professional athletes protesting racial injustice (particularly the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin) by walking out of their games was a resonant development.

Our football segment on WISE Sports Radio began with discussion of NBA players protesting playoff games and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Mookie Betts deciding not to play and his teammates supporting him by also walking out. But we also tried to have some fun with Buffalo Bills fan Mike Gore!

Players on several NFL teams (first done by the Detroit Lions) also protested by canceling practice, but with no games being played, what basketball, soccer, and baseball players are doing is getting more headlines. Protests are intended to make people notice and these athletes have certainly accomplished that.

You can listen to The WISE Guys from 3 to 6 p.m. ET streaming on wisesportsradio.com or the TuneIn app. Locally in the Asheville area, dial up 1310 or 970 AM and 102.9 FM.

Thanks to Mars Hill University for sponsoring WISE’s streaming broadcast and the NFL segment is presented by D.C. Creasman Jewelers.
