WISE Sports Radio segment: July 23, 2020

Baseball is making news, which overtook our usual NFL segment on WISE Sports Radio. Mookie Betts signed a gargantuan 12-year, $365 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. And baseball players are kneeling during the National Anthem.

The conversation did turn to football, however, with Antonio Brown asking the NFL to complete its investigation into sexual assault allegations and a battery charge. And if Dan Snyder’s Washington Football Team doesn’t have enough to deal with, the Fritz Pollard Alliance is taking issue with the organization’s hiring practices.

Social justice advocacy is becoming an increasingly prominent issue among athletes and it’s encouraging to see many use their platforms to bring attention to systemic racism and police violence. Baseball has been behind the other sports in expressing its views and appears to be making up for that now.

You can listen to The WISE Guys from 3 to 6 p.m. ET streaming on wisesportsradio.com or the TuneIn app. Locally in the Asheville area, dial up 1310 or 970 AM and 102.9 FM.

Thanks to Mars Hill University for sponsoring WISE’s streaming broadcast and the NFL segment is presented by D.C. Creasman Jewelers.
