After getting arrested for the second time in approximately 15 months, the Atlanta Braves have a Marcell Ozuna problem. With DUI charges following a domestic violence arrest, would the Braves prefer to move on from Ozuna? Probably, but Atlanta might also need him, as much as that might pain the team.
On our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, we also chat about reliever Josh Hader’s struggles with the San Diego Padres, Noah Syndergaard apparently avoiding his former New York Mets teammates, and whether or not Paul O’Neill truly deserved to have his No. 21 retired by the New York Yankees.
With the NFL playoffs underway, baseball is off the stage with offseason news — especially when the top free agents have signed now. But there are still some transactions going on while baseball gears up for its next wave of activity, probably around February before teams prepare for spring training.
That’s what we covered on Monday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. I really like what the Washington Nationals are doing, building depth instead of throwing big money at stars (other than keeping Stephen Strasburg). Pat Ryan and I also covered Yoenis Cespedes encountering a wild boar, and two shows that Pat’s been binging on Netflix.
Killer robots and masked vigilantes on The Podcass!
After talking about a new job (which was an old job), we review the latest Terminator flick, Terminator: Dark Fate, and wonder if we’ve already seen this movie (05:34). Then, we finally get to Watchmen, HBO’s new series that is already fascinating, challenging, and intriguing (16:18).
First, grievances fuel motivation at the gym (01:29). From WISE Sports Radio, we cover the playoff collapses of the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Philadelphia Phillies firing manager Gabe Kapler. On the football side, we dig into the disastrous Washington Redskins and their dismissal of coach Jay Gruden, along with other NFL Week 6 storylines (07:33). And finally some TV talk on Fox’s Prodigal Son and ABC’s Emergence (31:32).
I’ve always been a fan of the Academy Awards, even when I wasn’t as much of a movie buff as I am now. Once upon a time, I let the Oscars dictate most of the movies I went to see. Now, it’s the other way around: I hope the Oscars reflect what I felt were the best movies of the past year.
For various reasons, I wasn’t as excited about the Oscars this year as I usually am. I didn’t even make an effort to see all of the Best Picture candidates, which I typically do. I had plenty of opportunity to see The Favourite, Green Book, and Roma, however. (And I’ll see them in the weeks to come.)
But there was still plenty to talk about with the Oscars, notably the show not having a host and a crowd-pleasing blockbuster like Black Panther being one of the Best Picture nominees.
We also dissected the Season 3 finale of True Detective. Overall, I enjoyed the season, especially Stephen Dorff’s performance as Roland West. The mystery was intriguing enough, though not the driving storyline for the season, as it turned out.
