WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: June 25, 2020

Now that Major League Baseball looks like it’ll play (unless COVID-19 has something to say about that), the “will they or won’t they” question turns to the other sports. And football isn’t shaking the coronavirus.

On WISE Sports Radio‘s NFL segment, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I discussed whether or not a contact sport in which distancing seems impossible can be played right now. Also, Jamal Adams wants the New York Jets to trade him. The Washington Redskins are feeling more pressure to change their name. And the Detroit Lions’ new boss is same as the old boss.

WISE Sports Radio MLB update: June 23, 2020

Surprise! It looks like we’ll have a 2020 Major League Baseball season. Well, at least the financial and schedule terms for a season have been agreed to. But COVID-19 concerns could still ruin all of these plans, which was supposed to be the obstacle to baseball being played in the first place.

So what will a 2020 MLB season look like? That’s what we talked about on a bonus WISE Sports Radio baseball update. But please pardon me if I still don’t fully buy in until a regular season pitch is finally thrown.

WISE Sports Radio MLB spot: June 22, 2020

This week’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment aired before Major League Baseball players voted on whether to accept team owners’ latest proposal on terms for a 2020 season.

But most of what Pat Ryan and I discussed holds true. Team owners and players are totally deadlocked on salaries for the season, a sticking point that has stalled any chance at baseball this year. And then, even if the two sides hashed that out, what about the renewed concerns over COVID-19?

Back on Richmond’s The Fan to discuss ‘Long Gone Summer’ and remote sports broadcasts

Great to be invited by Wes McElroy back to The Fan in Richmond (910 AM, 105.1 FM) to chat about sports media. We talked a little bit about the next ESPN “30 for 30” film, Long Gone Summer, but I haven’t seen it yet so couldn’t offer much other than my own personal experiences watching the 1998 home run race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa.

But with the NBA and NHL returning soon (we still don’t know if MLB is coming back), Wes and I discussed what those telecasts might sound and look like with the broadcasters likely to work off-site from remote studios.

WISE Sports Radio MLB segment: May 20, 2020

Last week looked like it could be the final stand for Major League Baseball with team owners and the players union set to discuss the final proposal for a 2020 season being played. While many have focused on the COVID-19 restrictions that would be implemented, the greater concern might be salaries.

On Wednesday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan and I chat about the many rules players, umpires, coaches, and ballpark staff would face if MLB games are played. And if there isn’t a season, will the players ultimately be blamed?
