WISE Sports Radio NFL update: June 4, 2020

Drew Brees really stepped in it Wednesday when asked about NFL players once again kneeling during the national anthem this season to protest racial inequality and police violence.

Brees said “I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America.” And while he clearly has strong feelings about those who serve, he also completely missed the point of such protests. Stunning, really, since he’s on a team and shares a locker room with many black players.

After intense blowback from many athletes, including several New Orleans Saints teammates, Brees apologized. But do his remarks and other tone-deaf comments from Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio indicate that the NFL has to do a better job with informing its players and coaches on social and racial issues? That was the main topic on our WISE Sports Radio NFL update:

WISE Sports Radio NFL hit: Feb. 27, 2020

Quarterbacks make the NFL world go ’round (well, maybe coaches too) and this offseason figures to be very entertaining with big names like Tom Brady available to sign with another team. And he’s apparently ready to.

On Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I also ask if Cam Newton is a good fit with new Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule, Ron Rivera challenging Dwayne Haskins in Washington, the new Collective Bargaining Agreement proposal, and how much money the Dallas Cowboys will have to pay Dak Prescott.

WISE Sports Radio NFL hit: Feb. 6, 2020

Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment began with a little bit of baseball with news that the trade between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers involving Mookie Betts might not go through. That’s why baseball writers usually cover their asses by adding “pending physicals” at the end of tweets and reports. Not just a throwaway line!

On the football side, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I discuss the Cleveland Browns calling Kareem Hunt and Odell Beckham Jr. into the principal’s office, Tom Brady’s possible new contract with the New England Patriots, and the Antonio Brown Apology Tour.
