WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Dodgers-Padres rivalry, Ronald Acuna and Stephen Strasburg injured

During the past year, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have formed the best rivalry in Major League Baseball. The two teams competed for the National League West division title and faced each other in the postseason, followed by the Padres bolstering their roster to catch up to the reigning World Series champions.

For our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, we discuss this past weekend’s Dodgers-Padres series, injuries to the Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. and Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg, and a COVID outbreak among the Minnesota Twins.

Baseball’s Opening Day is next Thursday, April 1 (no joke), which provides enough time to log our 2021 season predictions. This time around, I pick the National League West winner and standings, along with the NL Central division.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure either division will be competitive at the top. But second-place and wild-card races could provide some drama.

We’re getting closer to spring training and the start of the 2021 Major League Baseball season. And the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers just brought back a key piece for their roster.

On Monday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, we discuss the Dodgers re-signing Justin Turner and inking Trevor Bauer to shorter-term contracts is a trend that other MLB teams might follow, considering their recent success. Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda passed away last Friday at the age of 93. Baseball misses having personalities like Lasorda in the dugout who can serve as the face of a franchise.

On Monday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball spot, Pat Ryan and I talked about Lasorda’s legacy and replayed his most famous postgame rant at a reporter. We also discuss slugger Kyle Schwarber signing with the Washington Nationals and why the Chicago Cubs let him go. And a lawsuit accuses several MLB pitchers of doctoring baseballs with foreign substances.

WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: Aug. 27, 2020

August 26, 2020 was an important day in sports and culture. We don’t even need the perspective of years passing to see that professional athletes protesting racial injustice (particularly the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin) by walking out of their games was a resonant development.

Our football segment on WISE Sports Radio began with discussion of NBA players protesting playoff games and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Mookie Betts deciding not to play and his teammates supporting him by also walking out. But we also tried to have some fun with Buffalo Bills fan Mike Gore!
