WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Phillies-Braves call, Joe Musgrove’s no-hitter, Victor Caratini catching history

This past weekend was an exciting one in Major League Baseball with a no-hitter being thrown by the San Diego Padres’ Joe Musgrove and a controversial play at home plate involving the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves with first place in the National League East on the line.

In addition to what’s going in MLB, Pat Ryan, Charlie Metcalf and I also take a turn into football for our WISE Sports Radio segment to discuss Phillip Adams, a former NFL player who shot and killed five people in South Carolina last week. Metcalf actually coached Adams as a high-schooler.

WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: NL West and NL Central predictions, Braves keep a Panda

Baseball’s Opening Day is next Thursday, April 1 (no joke), which provides enough time to log our 2021 season predictions. This time around, I pick the National League West winner and standings, along with the NL Central division.

WISE Sports Radio Fernando Tatis Jr. clip: Feb. 18, 2021

Thursdays on WISE Sports Radio, I usually talk football with Pat Ryan and Mike Gore. But with Fernando Tatis Jr. signing a 14-year, $340 million mega-deal with the San Diego Padres and Tim Tebow announcing his retirement from minor league baseball, we mixed in some MLB news with our NFL talk.

Unfortunately, I screwed up with the recording of the segment. Actually, I recorded everything just fine and was in the process of editing it to post here. But my computer was also waiting for me to restart for an update and I must have hit a button that gave it the go-ahead. And I hadn’t saved the audio file for Thursday’s radio segment. All flushed away.

But before that, I did save a clip of us talking about Tatis’s contract to post on social media. So that’s what will go here today.

You can listen to The WISE Guys from 3 to 6 p.m. ET streaming on wisesportsradio.com or the TuneIn app. Locally in the Asheville area, dial up 1310 or 970 AM and 102.9 FM.

Thanks to Mars Hill University for sponsoring WISE’s streaming broadcast and the NFL segment is presented by D.C. Creasman Jewelers.

WISE Sports Radio MLB update: Sept. 21, 2020

The past weekend brought bad news for a former Detroit Tigers pitcher and a now-former Tigers manager. Justin Verlander requiring reconstructive surgery on his right elbow and Ron Gardenhire suddenly retiring due to health concerns were two of the topics we covered on WISE Sports Radio‘s baseball segment.

We also discussed the San Diego Padres, whom I think I’ve written more about than any other team this season in my role contributing to SI.com’s Dodgers site.
