WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Padres making moves, big prize Scherzer, the Cleveland Guardians

Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is Friday (July 30) and the San Diego Padres got a jump on their competition (namely the Los Angeles Dodgers) by acquiring All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

For our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, we discussed the Padres’ being aggressive, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer being a popular trade target, Tony La Russa’s success leading the Chicago White Sox, and the Cleveland Indians changing their name to Guardians.

WISE Sports Radio baseball clip: Trevor Bauer is in trouble

Once again, I messed up the recording of our full WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. Sometime during those 15 minutes or so, I must have hit a button that made the recording stop. I might need to bring in an intern to do this.

But I did manage to salvage a clip of my conversation with Pat Ryan regarding Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer and some very serious assault allegations against him. Reading the reports of the temporary restraining order filed against Bauer, it’s difficult to imagine him pitching again this season.

WISE Sports Radio baseball clip: Hector Santiago is Major League Baseball’s first sticky-stuff guy

Unfortunately, I botched the recording of our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. I had my computer doing too many things and it took memory away from the recording app.

But the opening part of the segment where we discussed Seattle Mariners pitcher Hector Santiago getting caught with a sticky substance in his glove by umpires resulted in him being ejected. With that, Santiago is the first pitcher penalized under MLB’s new crackdown on foreign substances and draws a 10-game suspension.

WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Gentlemen’s agreement, Fernando Tatis Jr., Shohei Ohtani

Two of baseball’s biggest sensations are Los Angeles Angels slugger/pitcher Shohei Ohtani and San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. On WiSE Sports Radio, Pat Ryan, former NFL and college coach John Shoop, and I talked about what makes both players worth staying up late to watch.

And Major League Baseball’s biggest storyline right now is the initiative to check pitchers for sticky substances that greatly enhance their grip and ability to put spin on the ball for movement. Managers who previously looked the other way when pitchers were using sticky stuff are going to be blowing a whistle on the opposition.

WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Dodgers injuries, Braves and Yankees struggles, surprising Giants

The New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves were expected to be two of Major League Baseball’s best teams. Yet approximately 65 games into the season, both are disappointing. On WISE Sports Radio, we discussed what’s going on and if each team can turn around with nearly 100 games left to be played.

Our other topics include another injury for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the key to the San Francisco Giants’ surprising success, and when we can expect MLB to start cracking down on pitchers using foreign substances.
