As typically happens in early September, the NFL and college football attracted most of the headlines (and viewing audiences, I presume). But plenty was happening in Major League Baseball too.
For our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan and I chatted about the Yankees-Mets Subway Series rivalry escalating, Trevor Bauer’s 2021 season ending, the Padres’ postseason chances fading, and Max Scherzer’s greatness ascending.
Baseball’s offseason essentially begins today, with free agents now allowed to negotiate with any team and the General Manager Meetings beginning in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Among the topics Pat Ryan and I discussed on WISE Sports Radio: Why is the MLB Players Union mad at Atlanta Braves’ GM Alex Anthopoulos? Is Nolan Ryan angry with the Houston Astros? The San Francisco Giants have a new GM. And what are some big trade rumors to watch this offseason?
The World Series begins Tuesday night, so my regular Monday appearance on Asheville’s WISE Sports Radio was a preview of the match-up between the Washington Nationals and heavily favored Houston Astros.
Last week, guest host Jordan DeVere (filling in for the vacationing Pat Ryan) asked me for an early prediction and I said the Astros would win in six games. Jordan gave me the opportunity to reconsider that pick. My rational mind says Astros, but my heart — my gut — says Nationals.
