WISE Sports Radio baseball: Fernando Tatis Jr. suspension, Tigers fire Al Avila, Jacob deGrom returns

We’re back on WISE Sports Radio after a break that went longer than planned, due to a vacation that was unfortunately eventful for host Pat Ryan. From a Casselbloggy standpoint, we’ll still be doing Major League Baseball segments on Mondays. But NFL spots will be every other Thursday while Pat saves his energy to focus on the local high school football season.

This week, we chat about Fernando Tatis Jr.’s 80-game suspension for PED use, the Detroit Tigers firing general manager Al Avila, and star pitcher Jacob deGrom rejoining a New York Mets team that’s already playing excellent baseball.

WISE Sports Radio baseball talk: Gentlemen’s agreement, Fernando Tatis Jr., Shohei Ohtani

Two of baseball’s biggest sensations are Los Angeles Angels slugger/pitcher Shohei Ohtani and San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. On WiSE Sports Radio, Pat Ryan, former NFL and college coach John Shoop, and I talked about what makes both players worth staying up late to watch.

WISE Sports Radio Fernando Tatis Jr. clip: Feb. 18, 2021

Thursdays on WISE Sports Radio, I usually talk football with Pat Ryan and Mike Gore. But with Fernando Tatis Jr. signing a 14-year, $340 million mega-deal with the San Diego Padres and Tim Tebow announcing his retirement from minor league baseball, we mixed in some MLB news with our NFL talk.

Unfortunately, I screwed up with the recording of the segment. Actually, I recorded everything just fine and was in the process of editing it to post here. But my computer was also waiting for me to restart for an update and I must have hit a button that gave it the go-ahead. And I hadn’t saved the audio file for Thursday’s radio segment. All flushed away.

But before that, I did save a clip of us talking about Tatis’s contract to post on social media. So that’s what will go here today.

You can listen to The WISE Guys from 3 to 6 p.m. ET streaming on wisesportsradio.com or the TuneIn app. Locally in the Asheville area, dial up 1310 or 970 AM and 102.9 FM.

Thanks to Mars Hill University for sponsoring WISE’s streaming broadcast and the NFL segment is presented by D.C. Creasman Jewelers.
