As we move toward February, the Major League Baseball offseason is showing a pulse after being virtually dormant the past couple of months.

Former Oakland Athletics pitcher Dave Stewart proposing a big investment to save his former team leads off our WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. That’s followed up with the New York Yankees taking a chance on pitcher Corey Kluber, who’s been frequently injured during the past two seasons. And are the Chicago Cubs going to trade star third baseman Kris Bryant or not?

With the White House and CDC extending social distancing restrictions on gatherings of 50 people or more to April 30, a Major League Baseball season can’t begin until June at the earliest.

A shortened season is a near-certainty, which left MLB and the players’ union to work out many logistics in terms what players will be paid and the conditions games would be played under. On Monday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan and I went over the big points of the new agreement.

Nolan Arenado is mad, bro. The Colorado Rockies’ best player thinks the general manager has treated him with “disrespect” and it’s increasingly looking like this situation isn’t going to end amicably.

For Wednesday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan and I recapped how Arenado and the Rockies got here. Also, will MLB umpires be mic’d up like NFL referees this season? With the exception of the Pittsburgh Pirates hiring Derek Shelton (previously the Minnesota Twins’ bench coach) to be their new manager, baseball news is virtually non-existent around the Thanksgiving holiday.

So on Wednesday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment, Pat Ryan, Charlie Metcalf, and I look at which teams will be active in pursuing free agents, who really needs to make an impact signing, and some of the big names rumored to be traded this offseason.

WISE Sports Radio MLB segment: Nov. 13, 2019

If it’s true that you ain’t tryin’ if you ain’t cheatin’, the Houston Astros have apparently been trying very hard as they’ve become one of the best teams in baseball. According to former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers, there was a whole lot of trying, in terms of stealing signs from the opposition, in 2017 when Houston won the World Series.

That’s just one of the topics Pat Ryan and I discussed on Wednesday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. We also talk about the Manager of the Year award winners and look ahead to the Cy Young Award and Most Valuable Player announcements.
