The NFL reacted to outrage over a bad pass interference call in the 2018 NFC Championship Game by making it reviewable under instant replay. But officials reviewed the plays so badly, rarely overturning even an apparent call, that the league has decided to nix it for the 2020 season.
On Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, Pat Ryan and I talk about that rule, the decision not to add a “sky judge” for instant replay this coming season, a left tackle heading for a big payday, the quieter Cleveland Browns, and… my favorite Michigan player in the NFL.
With the end of the World Series and the Washington Nationals shocking baseball with their win, we have lots of baseball talk on the latest Podcass!
First, we cover the events leading up to Game 7 between the Nats and Houston Astros on Asheville’s WISE Sports Radio (01:50). Then, thoughts on 15 seasons of Nationals baseball (18:52), followed by reflection on that surprise championship with Edmonton’s TSN 1260 (31:47). Football talk closes us out as we shovel dirt on the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and Mitchell Trubisky (39:14).
Always plenty to talk about with the NFL, and football essentially gets the sports spotlight to itself now that the World Series is over. (Although, the NFL really doesn’t surrender any spotlight to baseball these days.)
On Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio segment (with host Pat Ryan and guest co-host Mike Gore), we covered the increasing tension surrounding Baker Mayfield and the disappointing Cleveland Browns. We also discussed the future of the Cincinnati Bengals after benching quarterback Andy Dalton. Thursday Night Football‘s matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals was also on our list, in addition to some other Week 9 storylines to follow.
