WISE Sports Radio NFL spot: Oct. 17, 2019

Ever since I began talking about the NFL on WISE Sports Radio, cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been a topic. The guy just didn’t want to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars anymore (disappointing Jason Mendoza) and was going to claim injury (back, knee, ankle, etc.) or come up with another excuse (the birth of his second child) until he was traded to another team. Ramsey was finally dealt to the Los Angeles Rams, which means he probably won’t be a regular topic for us anymore — unless he gives us another reason.

Once again, producer Jordan DeVere filled in for the vacationing Pat Ryan, co-hosting with longtime Asheville High assistant football coach Charlie Metcalf. We also discussed Detroit Lions fans buying billboards to rage over the bad calls that cost them Monday night’s game versus the Packers. The Marcus Mariota era is over with the Tennessee Titans, and the Carolina Panthers have a dilemma if Cam Newton is ready to play. And we looked at Thursday night’s matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos.

WISE Sports Radio MLB spot: Oct. 16, 2019

We know one of the two teams that will play in the 2019 World Series, following the Washington Nationals’ 7-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the NLCS. A four-game sweep was a surprising result, considering the path that the Nats took to the postseason, through the Wild Card playoff against the Milwaukee Brewers, then a shocking NLDS win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who had the best record in the National League.

Naturally, the Nats led off our baseball segment on WISE Sports Radio, with the Los Angeles Angels hiring manager Joe Maddon, and the ALCS between the New York Yankees and Houston Astros also among our topics. Wednesday’s show was hosted by producer Jordan DeVere, filling in for the vacationing Pat Ryan, along with Asheville High coaching legend Charlie Metcalf.

WISE Sports Radio MLB spot: Oct. 14, 2019

Lots of baseball action to cover from the weekend on Monday’s WISE Sports Radio segment.

We cover the Houston Astros’ big win in Game 2 of the ALCS over the New York Yankees and where that series should go from here, then look at the NLCS and the Washington Nationals’ formidable series lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. And there’s the Tyler Skaggs story, which gets uglier by the day.

Oh, and I lament the 2013 Detroit Tigers, which had Max Scherzer and Anibal Sanchez in their rotation.

WISE Sports Radio spot: Oct. 10, 2019

With Asheville’s WISE Sports Radio now streaming its programming online, people can now hear my weekly segments on The WISE Guys show. I appear three times per week with Pat Ryan on the air, twice for Major League Baseball news, and now once on NFL news and storylines.

The stream also gives me an opportunity to record the audio from those spots and post them online. I’ve gotten the green light from the station to share those segments with my friends, followers, and readers, which I’m really excited about.

Here is Thursday’s segment, in which we covered both baseball and football because of the two decisive National League Divisional Series Game 5s and the news of the Philadelphia Phillies firing manager Gabe Kapler. On the football side, Pat and I discussed the Washington Redskins firing head coach Jay Gruden, other NFL coaches whose jobs are in danger, and storylines to watch in Week 6.
