WISE Sports Radio MLB hit: Jan. 8, 2020

Major League Baseball had an exciting postseason with the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros going to seven games in the World Series. The offseason created some much-needed sizzle with top free agents like Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and Anthony Rendon signing big contracts before Christmas, rather than dragging the process out until February or March.

But as Pat Ryan and I talked about Wednesday on WISE Sports Radio, the biggest baseball offseason story will probably be what MLB does to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox for their elaborate sign-stealing schemes involving cameras and dugout signals. The Astros won the World Series in 2017, the Red Sox in 2018, and both teams had Alex Cora on their coaching staffs.

WISE Sports Radio MLB spot: Jan. 6, 2020

With the NFL playoffs underway, baseball is off the stage with offseason news — especially when the top free agents have signed now. But there are still some transactions going on while baseball gears up for its next wave of activity, probably around February before teams prepare for spring training.

That’s what we covered on Monday’s WISE Sports Radio baseball segment. I really like what the Washington Nationals are doing, building depth instead of throwing big money at stars (other than keeping Stephen Strasburg). Pat Ryan and I also covered Yoenis Cespedes encountering a wild boar, and two shows that Pat’s been binging on Netflix.

WISE Sports Radio NFL segment: Dec. 19. 2019

Going into an exciting Week 16 on the NFL schedule, the Jacksonville Jaguars got a head start on their offseason by firing Tom Coughlin, the team’s vice president of football operations. Coughlin is a legendary coach in Jacksonville and may be a Hall of Famer for two Super Bowl championships with the New York Giants, but he was a terrible executive in his second tour with the Jags.

For Thursday’s WISE Sports Radio NFL segment, Pat Ryan, Mike Gore, and I also discuss Josh Gordon being suspended yet again for violating the league’s drug policy, Odell Beckham Jr. saying he wants to stay with the Cleveland Browns, and a very important Cowboys-Eagles game that could determine a playoff bid.
